The missile failed to explode on contact with the fabric of Mel balloon. Instead it sliced through one side and out the other. It slowly collapsed, finally bringing Mel toward the earth. A large, seemingly empty field quickly came up to meet the basket. Mel jumped clear as he approached the ground. He rolled to a stop and tried to get to his feet. Behind him he heard a soft snort. |
